  22.                      A Description of Chartist(r)

  25. Chartist is a Microsoft Windows(tm) 3.1+, and Windows 95 application.
  26. With Chartist you can create, edit, and print flow charts, organization
  27. charts, or other charts that use similar components. Through the use of
  28. the Windows Clipboard, you may also paste all or part of the charts you
  29. create into other documents, providing the application can read Clipboard
  30. bitmaps or metafile pictures. Chartist supports the OLE feature of Windows,
  31. allowing other applications to link or embed Chartist information.

  33. As with most Windows applications, you may run multiple copies of
  34. Chartist on your computer, with each copy simultaneously operating on a
  35. different document. Data may be exchanged among copies of Chartist,
  36. using the Clipboard.

  38. Chartist supports the text, graphics and color capabilities of your
  39. display and printer. Text in a Chartist document may use any number
  40. of the fonts available from your printer.
  41.  
  42. A Chartist document is one or more pages in size. The orientation of
  43. pages depends upon the settings for your printer. Within a Chartist
  44. document there may be one or more symbols. A symbol is a a polygonal
  45. shape with optional text or graphics inside it. The text inside a symbol
  46. may be in any of the fonts available from your printer. More than one
  47. font may be used for the text inside a symbol.
  48.  
  49. Lines may be drawn between symbols. The lines are routed automatically,
  50. with "influence" from the user as to symbol entry and exit points.
  51. Lines may be drawn with or without arrowheads, in different thicknesses,
  52. with solid, dotted or dashed pen styles, and with three different routing
  53. styles (straight, curved, square turns). When symbols are moved
  54. around the document, any associated lines are rerouted and redrawn as
  55. necessary. Lines may also be labeled with text.

  57. Advanced features include the ability to set up "hypertext" references
  58. withing symbols to other Windows documents (including other Chartist
  59. documents); the ability to load device independent bitmaps, such as
  60. scanned photographs, or other artwork into symbols; and the ability
  61. to customize, save and restore color palettes.

  63. The goal of Chartist is to give you an easy way to create charts quickly,
  64. while taking advantage of the advanced features of your printer,
  65. and providing data interchange with other Windows applications.
